Steam for Linux Improved Performance with Steam Login

Steam Login is a handy tool that allows you to boot straight in to Steam for Linux from the login screen. Without loading a desktop environment you’ll boot straight into Steam for Linux Big Picture Mode.

This results in improved performance as you will not have to dedicate system resources to a compositing manager or desktop environment, instead Steam for Linux session will be utilising the Xfce window manager – Xfwm4.

Download and install Steam Login for Ubuntu 12.10 and Linux Mint 14 then when you are next at your login screen simply select ‘STEAM’ and enjoy Steam for Linux in Big Picture mode!

To install via Command Line:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:thor27-gmail/steam-desktop
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install steam-login
